UPDATED ***RDR Stuck in Update or no Digital channels issue***

Hi all,

To avoid having several thread son the same subject I thought I'd try an let you know what I believe has happened so far, please don't shot the messenger after all I am only a user like yourselves & DO NOT WORK FOR SONY..

As you all have noticed Sony do not have technical support on the weekends, one of the 'Experts' noticed several users posting regarding RDR machines either stuck in Update or Digital channels missing and emailed one of our contacts in Sony this morning but as far as I am aware there has not been a reply..

I have also noticed that the newly appointed Community Managers have as also flagged this issue to their dedicated team (see post), unfortunately as it's the weekend I wouldn't expect any information to made available until Monday..

Quinnicus has posted two temporary workarounds that will hopefully allow you to use your RDR's..

I can imagine that you are frustrated by the lack of official response from Sony but could I ask that rather than creating several threads on the subject you instead just click on Me Too on this thread that will indicate how many users that have visited the forum are affected by the problem..

Hi,

System Normal all fouled up Friday night, then stuck in update Saturday

- ended this by press and hold power off on box (3x hdx870).  This Sunday

morning did exactly the same - stuck in update - left until this

afternoon before power down in the same way - when they came up - the

went into disk repair mode - they were working - digital channels

worked, program guide normal, even did test recording - have quickly

unset automatic sw updates though.

Updates normally run 9.am to 9.am - so perhaps today's/Sunday's is the one to allow download.

So is it the auto SW update which broke it (I already had 1.70 and mine still went wrong) or a change to the EPG broadcast? All good questions - any answers??

no software update was ever issued and hasnt been for a few years

it was a fault on the epg data , probably a missing character or typo

I had this problem with my RDR-HXD890 but I seem to have found an unmentioned so far fix for it. I still had some control of the unit via the remote control so I did what it said in the manual if it behaves erracticaly and switched it off then pulled the plug out and waited for a while before plugging it back in. I had to go through this procedure twice before normal operation resumed. Was I just lucky or has anyone else fixed the problem this way?

My unit is now back to normal. The unusual colour scheme left by itself. I had to use Easy Set Up a few times as some of the defaults had been changed,eg; Title list display had changed from 8 to 4 recordings and EPG had changed to Digital +. I have since tried to upgrade from 1.65 to 1.70 but the unit powers off halfway through the upgrade and reverts to 1.65 despite following the on line instructions word for word. Any suggestions or should I leave the unit on 1.65?

I had the Stuck in Update issue, after reset procedure I had no channels, so updated firmware to 1.70 but that stuck on Download-5. When the wife went to bed about 8 hours after, she unplugged the machine. So This morning tried channels and they are back. Interesting thing is even with software update now switched to off (unit in master bedroom and want to cut noise) it still attempts the regular updates. Like others I thought my unit had failed, was in the process of selecting a new unit, good job I didn't leap too soon.

Sony let's have solution please and make sure you let people know about it.

I'm in the software industry, responsible for releases, the first thing you do is test it, the next thing you do is don't release it on a Friday!
