The user manual for the STR-DA1200ES mention that speakers can be set to large or small depending on their ability to output low frequencies. If they are set to small it is possible to set a high pass cross over frequency for them. The lower tones will be sent to the subwoofer together with the LFE channel. At the page http://docs.esupport.sony.com/homeav/STR-DH550_DH750/en/contents/TP0000299085.html this is described in more details for another Sony amplifier. Here it is written that if the center is set to small and the front speakers are large, the front speakers can assist the center with the bass tones. Does this also apply to the DA1200?
What if all speakers are set to small, the center and surround are set to 80Hz, and the front are set to 50Hz. Will the front speakers assist with the 50-80Hz tones, and the subwoofer do the <50Hz + LFE? In other words, do I have to set the front speakers to large to get them to assist with the bass? I would like them to do the 50-80Hz tones, but don't wan't to go for front speakers that can do 20-20kHz.
