I have a XL201 HTPC which I upgraded quite a while ago to have an Nvidia 8500GT graphics card and Blu-Ray DVD drive. It works fine for all Blu-ray and HD stuff, but now 3D is upon us, I have a few basic questions:
Am I correct in saying that there are 3 types of 3D available:
A - where the left/right pictures are seperated by colour and must be viewed with Red/Blue glasses,
B - where the left/right pictures are seperated by Polarisation and must be viewed by Polarised glasses
C - where the left/right pictures are displayed seperately at twice the freqency (typically 120Mhz) and must be viewed with special synchronised glasses which show the left picture to the left eye etc.
Now I believe Type A can be viewed on a normal screen with fairly 'low-tech' hardware but the quality is not brilliant, and that is not the way to go. So let's forget that.
Now Types B and C - I have heard that you need special TV's to do this, but let's be clear on this: is it the screen that needs to be different or JUST THE GRAPHICS CARD driving it?
If I got a new 3D capable Graphics card in my HTPC, would I also have to change my TV to view 3D?
What experiences have people had converting HTPC's to 3D?
