I have had a LF-S50G Google Assistant powered speaker for over a year and use it in the kitchen for a multitude of things including as a convenient timer (by saying" Okay Google, set a timer for xx minutes"). This has worked flawlessly until about 48 hours ago when, at the end of the time, when I have previously said "Okay Google, stop" and the alarm has stopped, it now says "Sorry, there was a glitch; please try again". Nothing other than unplugging the unit will stop the timer/alarm.
I also have a Google Home and a Home mini; they work just as before/expected. The major difference that I can see between the Sony and them is that Sony's Cast Firmware is way out-of-date. Could this be the reason and if so, what can be done to restore the function?
Hi Chandalf,
Could you try the initialize instructions here. Let us know if this works for you.
Best wishes,

Hi chandalf,
Have you tried removing the speaker from the list of connected devices on Google Home? Also, try to uninstall and re-install the app from your phone. Have you checked if your speaker up to date? You can use this link to check and know how to update it if needed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have repeatedly tried removing and reinstalling the device with no success. I can also confirm that it has the latest Firmware.
Hi,
I too have an issue with this speaker.
Most commands are working for me but one issue relates to the countdown timer. When I set a countdown timer the countdown runs through to completion but once the alarm sounds there is no way to stop the alarm. When I tell google to stop the alarm it just says there is a glitch and try in a few moments but does not work.
Spoken to Google and they said this is for Sony to resolve. I am on latest firmware.
Sony - please advise how to fix.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
As a final test before trying to pass along this issue to Sony to investigate it further, could you try to connect the LF-S50G and the mobile phone that has Google Home to a different Wi-Fi network? You can create a portable hotspot on another phone for example and try connecting the LF-S50G and a mobile phone with Google Home to that newly created network then proceed with adding the LF-S50G to Google and home and try to replicate the fault.
Let me know the outcome.
Cheers,

The problems seem to have rectified themselves. Everything is working as it was. I can only assume that whatever changes were made to the Google back-end have been reverted or updated as there's been no change to my Sony unit.
New issue has now arrived in that the broadcast feature no longer works.
Spoken to Sony who are looking into it. Cast Firmware looks very out of date on my speaker even though I am on latest sony firmware. Thinking Sony need to update this.
