How to turn off notifications for eg wifi?

I've recently bought an E5 and am still getting to grips with it. One thing I have found extremely irritating, however, is the fact that various notifications keep appearing, complete with sound effects, even when the phone is locked and I have it set to "Don't show any notifications at all" when the device is locked. Is there any way to change this other than turning off sound for all notifications? I don't need to be told every five paces that I've come into range of a new wifi signal, and I definitely don't need to be told periodically that I've turned off mobile data.

You should be able to turn this function off, try the following.

Menu > Settings > Wifi > Press the Menu button(generally the 3 circles) > go to settings > turn off notify when wifi networks are available.
