Can somebody please tell what the maximum memory card size that this camera supports.

Looking at the support page for the DSC-P8:

It shows that the best option for your camera would be the Memory Stick Pro format upto 2GB in size. There are some other options for 2GB memory cards involving other formats but an adapter would be needed and even with one of these, there may also be other restrictions.
