EXIF tag ImgDirection

Hi,

I want to use the GPS EXIF data embedded within the photos taken on my Sony DSC-HX5V.  However the ImgDirection tags, which I was expecting to be a number between 1 and 359 (ie the angle/direction the photo was taken in), are actually values like the following:

321/1

263/4

3/4

899/4

139/2

1269/4

332/1

Any idea what these represent?  Am I to divide the first number by the second???

Thanks,

Richard

Both Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and Irfanview show reasonable values for 'GPS image direction', when I examined the EXIF data in my images. For example I was facing roughly NNW when I took a photo and direction is shown as 298.50.

The sensor isn't consistent, I took two photos of Dover Castle within a minute and the directions varied by 60°. I was in a boat travelling at about 5 knots, so this definitely not accurate.

Perhaps you can work out what the figures you described mean by viewing the images in another program? Irfanview is free and can display all of the data in an image.
