Remote Control KD-55XF9005

My remote control stopped working so tried everything I could find online.  Did a restart but can't get past the Welcome page.

We have another TV exactly the same and it works fine with it.  I was wondering if it could be because the TV was not connected to the internet so the software was not updated.  Just a guess.  The TV is useless at the moment and not that old, a couple of years not sure.

Any thoughts anyone?

Hi @Mhairitiree

It is not clear, are you saying that if you use the remote from the other TV, it doesn't work on the problem TV?

A simple test to see if a remote is working, is to use a phone camera in a dark area. Pointing the remote at the camera should show IR being sent from the remote while pushing a button.

If the remote receiver on the TV is faulty, you will need to contact Sony Support Consumer Electronics

The remote that doesn't work on one tv works on the other, very strange.  Thanks.

Not really strange. It would seem to indicate that it is the TV at fault.

With two identical TVs, I would guess you must have two identical remotes. Assuming they are not individually paired each with its particular set, I would predict that both remotes will work one of the TVs, and neither will work the one you are having issues with.

As @LightFoot suggests, this could be a problem with the sensor on the TV that receives the signal from the remote; or it could be something deeper inside the set.

So first make sure the sensor is clean and not masked by anything in its way. And if that doesn’t solve it, you could try powering it off for a couple of minutes (buttons on the back of the TV and unplug it from the mains) and powering on again. Next up, if the remote still isn’t controlling it, a factory reset, which can be done again from the buttons on the back; look up in the manual which ones to press, in what sequence.

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…
