KD-65XE8596 ethernet port link state flipping between down and up forever

I have a KD-65XE8596 connected to a pfsense router with a physical cable, the connection works as expected when the TV is in use and WiFi is switched off on the TV.

I noticed that when the TV is in standby, the ethernet port link state on the TV is down and up continuously, it fills my router log with:

Jul 23 08:40:04 pfsense kernel: igb3: link state changed to DOWN
Jul 23 08:40:05 pfsense php-fpm[15428]: /rc.linkup: Ignoring link event for bridge member without IP address configuration
Jul 23 08:40:05 pfsense check_reload_status[408]: Reloading filter
Jul 23 08:40:05 pfsense php-fpm[15428]: /rc.linkup: Ignoring link event for bridge member without IP address configuration
Jul 23 08:40:05 pfsense check_reload_status[408]: Linkup starting igb3
Jul 23 08:40:05 pfsense kernel: igb3: link state changed to UP

For info igb3 is the network port on the router that the TV is connected to, other devices connected to other ports on the router are fine.

This oddness doesn't cause any issue because the router log rotates so as not to fill the disk but surely the TV ethernet link state behaviour flipping between down and up when in standby can't be right?

Thanks!

hmm I searched some more and found these which I'm 99% sure are the same problem:

https://www.reddit.com/r/bravia/comments/gzpcty/sony_xbr_tv_ethernet_flapping_while_in_standby/

https://github.com/CiNcH83/bravia_atv2/issues/9

As far as I know the KD-65XE8596 won't be getting any more firmware updates so this feels like something I'm going to have to live with / workaround.

Hi @joelippa   I’m not sure why it matters (99.99999% of people never look at router logs unless they have a problem). However, have you checked and turned off all the standby activity like Update Guide in Standby / Networked standby. I’m afraid that all my TVs are now Google TV so I cannot point you in the right direction on the old Android TVs.

Hi @LightFoot thanks for your reply, yes everything that I can find in settings that might affect networking in standby is off. I accept that I'm in the 0.0001% who might care about this but it is actually quite disruptive for my pfsense network interface and router stability which is what led me to find it in the logs.
