KD-55XE8596 frame stutter on 50hz content

a number of Sony TVs can't view 1080i @ 50hz correctly. XE8596, XE9005 and probably some others are affected, which you can see a huge thread at AVForums discussing it at length - https://www.avforums.com/threads/sony-xe90-frame-repeats-drops-on-50-59-94-native-content-49xe9005.2...

Sometimes a stutter can be observed as soon as the camera changes. The only workaround is to use game mode, but this is unacceptable for a premium TV as a lot of television programmes in the UK is broadcasted at 50hz. Why hasn't it been fixed? Absolutely shocking I paid £900 for a larger TV that comes with faults, when an other brand TV I purchased in 2011 for £300 does not have this issue.

I have uploaded a slow motion recording showing this, you can see it at 0:03 and 0:16 seconds.

Hi,

The latest update is that Sony UK is still investigating this issue and looking into possible solutions. Has anyone here have this issue and actually tried the game mode setting? If so, did the stutter stop completely?

Yes, game mode (and for external devices photo mode(s)) removes the frame repeat issue completely (at least on my 49XE9005), the problem is for interlaced sources game mode is awful because it doesn't de-interlace properly so you are left with a flicker on the picture, most noticable on fixed egdes, text, or news tickers. So not a fix.

Photo modes don't allow half the picture processing options or motionflow to be enabled so again, not a fix unfortunately.

Neither is a fix, both are temporary work arounds at best. This has apparently been under investigation for a long time, it was first reported in the 4th quarter of 2017 it appears.

Try to turn On AV/SYNC.

From AVS Forum, this fix the problem:

Hey guys,

in german board "hifi-forum.de" the member gm-film found a solution to fix the 50hz bug. There seems to be a problem with the A/V Sync option for Bluetooth devices that causes the frame repeat/drops (doesn't matter if you actually use bluetooth devices or not). To fix the bug you need to go to the home menu -> settings -> sound -> AV Sync -> "On". -> By using this workaround the frame repeat/drops should be fine.

Yeh, hearing a few reports this fixes it, really good news, really! I have yet to try it out but so far it seems it is a fix.

So having suffered the frame drop ssue i have treid this fix.

I report after watching the football world cup this evening this works!!!

Picture is much smoother like really noticabily.

I can now watch in normal pic mode and everything is so much better.

Word of warning i tried this by just enabling this and foud no improvement. I reset the TV and enabled this then i properly shut the TV down (long press power button on remote) adn then watched TV and magic.

KUDO the the german forums for finding the real fix before Sony!!

Worked fine for me without resetting anything. What I dont like is Sony now blaming user settings, there is still a bug here which needs fixing. Its still a work around.

My KD-55XF8096 has a problem  when a camera angle changes during watching programmes (especially BBC one) through a SKY HD box there is a slow motion like movement for a second before picture corrects itself and continues. Has anyone got any ideas how to fix this? I've tried with motion plus on and off with no improvement.

this dont seem to happen on Netflix and programmes and channels with better quality picture than BBC.

Any ideas?

Sorry to reply to an old thread but I just changed A/V sync setting from auto to on and it has rectified the problem with frame repeat so I am more than happy. My TV is a Sony X95J 2021 model. It was driving me crazy and I was blaming my Android box lol. Thanks so much.

I can’t believe this is still an issue on Sony TVs. I got the X90S a few weeks ago, a 2022 model, and it is still happening on all built in apps. AV Sync fortunately works, but it is not a practical solution as it significantly increases input lag in games. Why does AV Sync even affect the TV speakers when It is intended for Bluetooth headphones? Sony really need to address this.

What's mentioned in the thread video stuttering and it's a 2018 thread.
What you mention is related to AV Sync, and that's related to lip sync between audio and video ''if I'm not mistaken''.
So I recommend either staring a new thread with the issue you're facing, or give us more information about what actually is happening, and what's the connected devices to the TV.

Yes, AV Sync is intended to correct lip sync, but turning it on has the effect of correcting a video stutter issue.

I have nothing connected to the TV at the moment. I’m just using the integrated apps, and they all have terrible frame drop issues, which are corrected by turning on AV Sync.
