Input/timer bar cant be turned off SONY KD49XG8305

I'm sorry to raise this subject again but it's driving me mad. Lots of help and advice available but the options aren't available on my TV or I haven't found them!

  • Press the [HOME] button on the remote control
  • Scroll down to 'Settings' and press [OK]
  • Select 'Channel Setup' and press [OK] Option not displayed
  • Scroll down to 'Info banner' and press [OK] Option not displayed
  • Select 'Off' and press [OK[
  • Then return out of everything

Is there another option that may be hidden elsewhere?

Hi Molysony, I'm so sorry you're still having these issues, I couldn't find the model number of your TV, could you confirm it again as there might be something else to try? Also, have you contacted Sony about the issue with the sound and picture dropping?

Hi Hannah

The model number is: SONY KD49XG8305

Currently, the sound /picture issue has gone away! Don't know why...

The drop-down bar continues to be the issue. It happens completely randomly which makes it even more annoying.

I haven't contacted SONY as I believe they are aware of problems arriving after the last firmware update.

I hope this all helps and appreciate your effort to help.

G.

Hi  Thanks for your reply. You might very well be correct but if this is the case then there's a major problem.

Assuming your view is correct and we ignore the SETTINGS issue before the recent firmware update there wasn't an issue with the drop-down bar. Now there is. This must be a software issue as the bar drops down completely randomly. This can not be a feature SONY wishes to offer to its customers as it is very intrusive and irritating!

Looking at the SETTINGS issue some of the options were available before and after the firmware update and then

changed again.

This is not a good customer experience but thanks you have now motivated to write to SONY!!

PS Are any other customers still struggling with this issue?

Yes, there are plenty more of us. Try searching this community for "info banner". I'd be interested to know if Sony's response has changed since I last contacted them. Good luck.

My chaser tweet to Sony at the weekend got the response “unfortunately, we have no further information to share at this time as the issue is still under investigation” - it’s been the same now for 3 months

Thanks for the update JonH68. I must admit I gave up chasing this weeks ago now I have a workaround. It's far from ideal but at least allows us to watch without constant interruption. Disappointing that the response from Sony is still the same after all this time. Many thanks.

Hi  Sorry to see that there's confirmation that there's still an issue with this that hasn't been resolved by SONY. Will another letter make a difference...? Still, you mention a workaround. Have you posted this or can you let me know how you've solved the issue?

Many thanks for your vigilance in responding.

From what I've seen on the community and Twitter so far, there seems to be 2 camps, some models which have the option to turn off the banner entirely, and some that don't.

The issue is the same in both cases, and happened after the same software update, but just the option seems to be missing on some.

It has been confirmed that it's "being investigated" though as jonH68 mentioned earlier. Hopefully, a solution/update is released soon!

I don't know if the cause is the same for everyone. My model is xg9005 which also lost the option to turn off the info banner. The workaround that made my viewing bearable again was to disconnect my sources from my AV receiver (also Sony BTW) and plug them directly into the TV on HDMI ports 1,2 & 4. The audio routes back to the receiver via ARC on HDMI 3. So I'm limited to 3 sources and can no longer switch them through the receiver. My receiver is only 7.2 so potential loss of Atmos etc is not a concern for me and I've not experienced any noticeable lip sync problem. Like I said not ideal but I can at least watch virgin media now without the info bar popping all the time. I still live in hope that one day I'll be able to switch it all back to the setup I had before this firmware update.
