Problems after latest system update

My Xperia 10 IV was upgraded yesterday to v65.1.A.4.8.  After restarting I noticed some issues.

  1. On the lock screen the clock seems to have shifted right to the top right underneath the notification bar.  It seems to look out of place as I believe previously it was further down.
  2. When you unlock, the 'Enter Pin' label is again at the top of the screen and the keypad at the bottom, leaving a huge blank space in between it looks really odd.  However, since the upgrade the biggest problems are...
  3. When you exit an app either by the back key or home key the app window seems to have an animation that can only be described as 'Swoosh'.  It's quite noticeable and after a moving between several apps you feel a little bit queasy.  I have tried the developer option to change the animation timings but they don't seem to do anything.  So resorted to turning off all animations in the accessibility menu.  This now creates a new problem possibly dangerous.
  4. With the animation off, when you now exit an app either with the back key or home key, the app splash screen or app icon momentarily flashes on the screen.  This is displayed full screen with some transparency almost a ghost image, but it does flash up.  As some one who suffers from migraines, flashing images can trigger them and I suffered one yesterday.  I only suffer from migraines, but what about those who may have seizures.  How did this get through testing?

I am not sure of this is a Sony issue or an Google created issue.  But what I need to know:

  • Is there going to be an update top fix this? or
  • How do I roll back the update.

At the moment I can't use my phone other than for calls using a headset.  I am not using it for email, messaging, maps or web etc and have resorted to my laptop for these activities.  May need to consider reverting back to my XA1 if there is no resolution.

Thanks...

Hello @DangerMouse

1. have you tried to change the lockscreen clock? choose the one that is displayed in the center
settings>display>lock screen preferences>clocks

2. can't change that, but at least you won't see it if you unlock with fingerprint

3. as far as I know this happens with stock android , the options in the accessibility menu are there to help, so unless the feature is bugged there is nothing to worry about.

4. can you send a video of this happening?

Solutions:

1. you may use third party app launchers found in google play, that lets you customise how the launcher behaves

2. no you can't roll back to previous android versions as google policy,...

Hi @MarlonUk1

Many thanks for the reply.  In response to you reply:

Q:Have you tried to change the lockscreen clock? choose the one that is displayed in the center
A: I have tried and quite frankly all the other clocks are ugly.  I was quite happy with the current one until it got shoved to the top of the screen.

Q:2. can't change that, but at least you won't see it if you unlock with fingerprint
A: This was not a visible issue until the latest update. Not a massive problem another ugly design decision

Q:3. as far as I know this happens with stock android , the options in the accessibility menu are there to help, so unless the feature is bugged there is nothing to worry about.
A: Not sure this was stock Android until the latest update.  If you have a form of motion sickness (for example I can't scroll through lots of text on my mobile) it is something to worry about.  The accessibility settings should not cause more problems nor should we just have to live with it.

Q:  can you send a video of this happening?
A: love to attach a video but I don't seem to have permission to.

We shouldn't have to use third party launchers to control these things.  None of these problems existed when I bought the phone 6 months ago only after the recent update.  Honestly this is now a very horrible phone to use.

@DangerMouse

This probably won't make you happy and won't help you resolve your issues but always be cautious

about updating as soon as updates become available.

Its always best to research any problems people experience first and then make your decision about applying the updates. I haven't upgraded our 10 IV yet.

If you want to upload videos here you firstly have to upload them to a video sharing website e.g. YouTube

and then insert the link whilst creating your post.

Sorry you're having a hard time.

I agree with @jumpsuit, It's usually the same post after every update, and we can throw a bunch of things to try, like force restart, safe mode, clearing cache and doing tests. However, it really resolves itself with time and more bug fixes, it's that annoying yet simple at the same time.

Thanks for the replies.  I normally would not do the update straightaway, but it was early in the morning, logging into my work pc and the update came through - I thought "what harm could it do"

Anyway on the off chance I dropped Sony a note and the say speak to Google, and turn the animations back on...so I have a choice motion sickness or headaches. 😞

It not cheap phone (actually pre-ordered it) and now its just horrid to use. Will log a bug report with Google and see what they say.

Thanks all...
