Can't remove new message icon from Google Messages app

I have a Xperia 1 iii. My problem is with the Google Messages app used for SMS and MMS. When I have any unread messages it will display a number over the app to indicate how many unread messages I have. I don't have any unread messages but there is still a number 1 over the app and I can't get rid of it no matter what I do.

I've already tried clearing the cache and storage on the Messages app and it doesn't work. I've tried restarting my phone and this doesn't work either. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello. In my case, I cleared chache and data of Xperia Home. It helped. But now I have to rearrange everything again. But anyway, I wanted to write here, if it helps someone.
