Took this to reinforce my point that i think EIS is causing the problem.
SONY XZ3 4K NORMAL APP, HDR DISABLED

SONY XPERIA 1 4K NORMAL APP HDR DISABLED.

The common denominator between the two is that they both have an EIS mode.
and as such EIS in any form simply cannot do its job in 4K MODE.
Sony higher up techs
Can you do me a favour please?
I know the Xperia 1 is meant to use OIS+EIS, however you can see that EIS has a problem at this resolution. Is it possible for you RND to send me a firmware update (i take full responsibility +plus my phone is insured anyhow) to send me a BETA firmware to test and I will provide you with a full report, that is a BETA firmware that only has OIS enabled at this resolution or AT LEAST disable EIS on wide and telephoto and only have EIS on the super wide?
Im concinced that OIS+EIS working together is just bad news and EIS somehow forces OIS not to work.
Hi @GilgameshUK ;
I don't have the Xperia 1 yet so I can not test it and this is just a theory but don't you disabling Video Stabilisation (Camera>Video Recording>Settings>Video Stabilisation>Disable) disable the EIS? Because I don't think it is possible to disable OIS being it hardware, so disabling Video Stabilisation you are disabling only EIS.
Thats what i initially thought also.
However I still think EIS plays some part in interfering with OIS. OIS is mechanical and is essentially on a gimbal. Baring external influences its hard to go wrong.
The only thing that COULD influence this, would be the EIS.
