One thing I noticed last night when trying again is that the BluRays that
are registering as INVALID do not spin at all when the door closes.

It's like they're not being picked up by the transport.

I read on the internet that some recent BluRays are out of spec, being
thinner than they should be.

However I just measured this disc with digital verniers and it is exactly
1.20mm which is precisely on spec.

The misbehaving BluRays are ALL Universal releases..

My old BDP-S363 shows some BluRays as INVALID, others it plays fine, and some it plays audio but no video.

DVDs work fine.

All the BluRays play with no problem in my X-Box One.

I have updated firmware to .011 which was the latest available when I hooked the player up via ethernet.

So -what's the issue?

The BluRays have the correct region code.

Hi there,

Welcome to the Sony Community.

Can you try the following steps to see if this resolves your issue -

Make sure that the Parental Control settings are not set to On. Parental control settings can prevent certain discs from being played.

Make sure that BD ROM 24P Output setting is set to Off. If this setting is set to On and a TV that does not support this setting is being used, the TV screen will be blank or not show a picture.

Make sure that the output video resolution setting of the Blu-ray Disc player corresponds with the TV.

Let me know how you get on?

Best wishes,

Sean

Hi again,

If you have followed the steps I suggested and still having these issues, then I'd recommend getting in touch with the Sony Support team here.

Best wishes,

Why would some BluRays not spin when the door closes?

Clearly the player hasn't even tried to read them if they've not moved at
all.

What makes these discs different from those that work with no issues?
