Problem with Information Bar -help a newbie please!

I am elderly and this is my first 'smart' tv it is a.........

Bravia model KDL-48W D653 new this month.

It is excellent after my old Humax and it was set up for me as I wanted it and I have managed to go thru the manual to do other minor adjustments such as sound/picture.

What annoys me is that every time I change progs, mute it or do anything else on the remote - a 'bar' appears at the top of the screen for about 5 or more seconds giving info like time, stereo number?, HD......?

I never had this on my old TV but I suspect it is because it is 'smart'. The TV is the best I have had but how can I get rid of this bar completely.Tried pressing the 'i' on the remote but it just comes back!

Said something in manual about home - settings.........but I tried this and nothing happened - there was no 'off' switch.

Hello there

Unfortuately you cannot perminently disable the information banner/bar at the top of the screen. The only models that I am aware that you can do so, is the Android based models.
