iPlayer stopped working on Bravia KDL-37EX723

Hi all, the iPlayer app (Big Screen Version 4.5.30.59, Framework Version 3.12) has stopped working on my connected TV since it updated about a week ago (16th March).

The app loads as normal when selected and I can see all the usual options and programmes. However, when I select a programme to view, I get a spinning circle for a few moments and then the message "Something went wrong loading this programme", try later etc... Same happens with the new BETA version. The tv is connected directly to the brodband router with an Ethernet cable. The iPlayer is still working okay on all other devices around the house and other video apps on the telly are still working okay (including BBC News).

I've tried factory reset, updating firmware, powering off, refreshing internet content, none of which has helped.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply Quinnicus but no I can see all of the channels okay and the programmes update okay as I move from channel to chennel. Everything works as it should except when I actually slecet a programme to view, then it hangs.

Hi there

If there was an issue with iPlayer, this forum would have seen a lot more posts from others. So this issue is isolated to you for some reason. You have done all the troubleshooting bar one. I know its a long shot, but can you try rebooting your router?

If that fails, please respond back and ill escalate this to Sony Support.. Please also include your broardband speed ( http://www.speedtest.net ), ISP and what router you have.

I have same problem on my.KDL-46W905A as by patrick BBC iplayer the spinning wheel then something went

wrong try again later, but has been like this now a few days now.

I have bbc iplayer on ipad appletv4 and pc, but not on the Sony.

Just tested it on my KDL-42W807A TV - iPlayer works. Issue at your end somewhere.

Hey all,
apologies for not getting back. As suggest by a previous user my issue was
with me router. I had swapped out the standard Sky cable modem with a
TP-Link one to allow me to do a few funky hacks. Anyhow it's needed a
reboot. Silly of me not to think of it. iPlayer working grand now.

No sorry i have powered off TV rebooted router,

powered TV on after router reboot but no BBC iplayer,

or BBC sport or BBC news Demand 5 works ok.

The BBC iplayer worked before last update but not now.

Also is there a better browser on this TV the Sony browser

is worse than useless.

The smart part of this TV is not very smart.

Do you have a UK based IP address? https://www.iplocation.net

And double checking if you have set up any VPNs or SmartDNS's on your TV?

Can you please try a factory reset on the TV - as this can clear many issues.

Hi thanks for reply the BBC iplayer works via Cisco router

this has a UK ip there is no special VPN DNS settings on the Bravia

have tried both wifi and cable.

The BBC iplayer works fine on my ipad, imac,airbook,apple tv4,

but not on my Bravia KDL-46W905A.

I have tried tv power off router reboot tv power on opdate internet etc.

One thing i could try is a factory reset have you a link how to do this.

I have done a factory reset no change still get

something went wrong on iplayer.

what i have done

Factory reset

Reboot router

Power off TV reboot router power on tv.

Update internet on tv

Done a new network install

Tried both cable, wifi.

The BBC iplayer worked before last TV firmware update.

BBC iplayer works from same network router on my 2 ipads, appletv4, imac,

macbook pro. BUT not on my KDL-46W905A.

My conclusion is its a Sony problem.

I have escalated your issue to Sony as i am out of ideas on how to help you. i have stated what you troubleshooting steps you have already done in the hopes they dont repeat. They should be in contact with you early next week.
