unsupported signal

I have connected my Toshiba Satellite Pro to a Sony Bravia (KDL40Z5500) by VGA cable so I can see the laptop screen on my TV (laptop has no HDMI output). The screen resolution is 1280 x 720. However, even though I can see a perfectly good picture on the TV, I get a permanent black box message on the lower right hand corner of the TV screen saying "Unsupported signal. Adjust your PC output". How do I turn this useless message off? The only way I can get rid of it is to reduce the resolution which results in losing part of the Sonyuy screen and defeats the object of using my nice big TV screen. Can anyone help?

Thanks

David
