Sony HXR-MC2000E camcorder won't turn off

I am having a problem with my digital video camera recorder. It refuses to turn off. When is turned on, it works fine.

When I try to turn it off, it won't. When I switch it off the movie lamp stays on and it flashes for like 5-6 seconds, it turns the LCD screen on for a second in an attempt to reboot or something like that. After the LCD is turned off a second later, it starts all over again in a continuous loop until I have to forcibly remove the battery which is very dangerous of course.

What may be causing this problem and how could I fix it?
