New A95L XR55 master series won’t turn off via remote control

Anyone had same problem or fix without unplugging. Doing that will delete all the app passwords and that’s a real pain to re enter.

An intermittent fault and if I keep repeating pressing the on/off button Tv will eventually turn off.

Not what I expect from a £2000 television!!!!

Did your TV come with two remote controls, and if so are both remotes incapable of turning off the TV.

When you press the power off button does the LED on the front light up to acknowledge that a button has been pressed.

If you press and hold the power off button for 5 seconds do you get the Restart screen.

I take it other functions on the remotes work as expected.

Do you have another Sony TV in the house (or perhaps a neighbour, friend or relative) that you can use that TVs remote to see if your new Sony will respond to the power off command from the other TVs remote.

If this is a very new TV have you contacted the seller to alert them to the problem, they may be able to help you

with a visit from an TV repair person to diagnose the problem and offer a solution.

If it is under 30 days old you can ask for a replacement TV or a full refund.

Unplugging your TV does not delete all your app passwords.

Look at the output from your remote through the camera on your mobile phone.

This makes the IR visible, so you can see if the problem is the remote not sending, or the remote sending but the TV no longer responding.

The remote is emitting fine, tv not responding. Tried another remote today, same result.

Hi, Thanks for your suggestion.

I managed to get this resolved by accident.

Apparently if you hold the on/off buttong for any length of time, yes the tv turns off but throws up the prompt Restart.

But if you quickly tap on the on/off the TV turns off.

This is really odd to say the least, but it works for me and has done for the past 10 days.

I managed to get this On /off issue resolved by accident.

I can see why that might be. Heck of a lot to be learned from a manual. Few take the time to fully read it. (Me included)

Neither a short press or a long press does anything on my tv. It used to but not since the IR has gone faulty in the TV receiver. Sony claim the tv only has a 12 months warranty!

As you have established that your Infra Red sensor board on the TV is not working, then of course pressing the power on/ off button will have no effect.

Where did you buy your TV, were they offering a multi year warranty included in the purchase.

When did you buy your TV, was it over 12 months ago.

Sony TVs normally come with only a 12 month warranty, sometimes Sony do offer 5 year warranties

on certain models but you have to apply and register for that within 90 days of purchase.

The first point of contact for an in warranty repair is to the reseller of the TV.

Hi there. Apologies for the delayed reply.- I checked all ofer again and as a last resort I changed the batteries that came with the TV. Crazy but the original batteries supplied where duds- no power left. By purring in Druacell copper tops the problem resolved. poor play on Sony for providing crappy batteries.

I hade the same problem. I changed the batteries to some decent ones. problem resolved. Try it and see.

Okay good that it was an easy fix. Odd that the batteries would be dud, what make were they?

I gave up using Duracell batteries in my remotes and other devices as after years of

using Duracells with no problems I was finding that newer purchase/ batches were very

prone to leaking. So look at your battery compartment periodically.

I use Varta Industrial Pro which are apparently 'leak proof', no problems so far

Bought from Curry, have no proof of a 5 year warranty, currys say 12month, Sony say 12month, so have no proof to claim otherwise. Mine is the KD65A85 model, paid over £2k just over 2 years ago.

Currys and Sony will offer only a 12 month warranty, unless Sony at the time of purchase were offering a 5 year warranty on your particular model, if so this can only be redeemed within 90 days of purchase online via the Sony website.

Other retailers like John Lewis and Richer Sounds offer multi year warranties without you having to do anything.

If your TV is out of warranty and you think there is a fault with a component within your TV you would need to get a quote on how much it may be and see if it justifies the expense.

Sounds like your opinion of Sony is the same as mine.

Have (prior to purchase of A95L been a fan of Sony, but have always had LG TVs

Went into Spatial Sound In Nantwich where salesman Kevin sweet talked me in to buying Sony at twice the price Struggling from day, one Kevin became arrogant and uncaring

loads of problems latest ITVX not working on YouView, tried all sorts but no joy

i suffer from MH issues and accept others think Sony are good so please no sarcastic responses
