KD-55XE9005: incorrect video orientation

When playing videos, which were recorded e.g. on iphone in vertical position, the displayed video is not rotated correctly -> it is rotated by 90deg counter-clockwise, but with correct x and y dimensions, see attached snapshot of such video:

I have Android TV (Sony KD-55XE9005) and videos were played in Kodi 18.9 app.

The issue does not occur if MediaCodec Surface (i.e. HW acceleration) is turned off, but in this case video playback is extremely-slow.

Bug report to MediaTek chip manufacturer RealTek at their contact page (https://www.mediatek.com/about/contact-us) didnt result in any feedback (reported on 30sep2020).

Are you aware that Kodi is not developed by Sony? Wait for an answer on their community.

Thanks, im aware of the fact that Kodi is not developed by Sony, therefore i've reported a bug more than year ago on Kodi github site (i have attached the link to it in my previous thread, here it is again: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/16990).

On this site on 23sep2019 a member of Kodi team (fritsch) posted this comment:

"In fact I can reproduce on FireTV 4K. It has the same MTK chip as you have in your original log. For me that actually looks like a firmware bug (from my current depth of investiagion) cause I see that we properly push the rotation down."

Other people having Sony TV reported that they have tried Plex, VLC, and other andriod apps and orientation is always wrong, so its not Kodi issue.

After that the issue was reported to chip manufacturer MEDIATEK (https://www.mediatek.com/about/contact-us), but there was no feedback.

Therefore we are currently here at Sony.

as per the original poster.

I can confirm that I have this issue on a Sony TV and this issue exists even on USB videos played in the Sony native Video app AND and any Andriod app on the Sony TV. VLC, Plex, Kodi.

This issue exists even when you are using USB and Sony native Video app. The orientation is wrong.

Hi, try rotating the videos on your phone first, or try downloading a different app.

The videos play in the correct orientation on all other devices. But NOT in the native Sony video app or any other app on the Sony TV

Try taking a video on another device, all what I know is that there's no option on the TV to rotate it.

This happens with any video shot on any iphone
