Checking for updates

Hi,

My KD49X8309C has started switching itself on and endlessly checking for updates. After a while the screen goes completely white. When we press the menu button on the remote, we can't get to the menu it just goes to "checking for updates" again. Any advice anyone?

Hold down the On/Standby button on the remote for over five seconds.

This, if the TV responds at all, will soft reboot it.

Failing that, try a forced factory reset:-

Many thanks for your reply. Tried the reset, sadly without success as the TV just keeps switching itself off and then cycling to the Checking for Updates page. It just keeps doing this so wondered if there were any other ideas?

If it doesn’t respond to the forced factory reset, there is no hope for it, beyond going back for repair or replacement.

How old is it, where did you buy it, and how long is your guarantee on it?

Thanks again for your reply. we are in the process of moving house to I'll dig all the information out and contact Sony shortly. I did try to download the most recent firmware update onto a stick but Sony's site isn't working. One to sort out in new home
