Itv Hub and All4 Players - sanity at last

Good news for those about to buy, or considering, a new model Sony Android TV.

You are no longer required to be running YouView to get the itv hub and All4 Players, nor to have tuned in the corresponding terrestrial channels.

So, for the latest 2020 models, it is at last feasible to run them without a terrestrial aerial and still straightforwardly access these two Players.

And, for those with a terrestrial aerial, you now have the free choice between the YouView UI and the Freeview UI without having to either sacrifice, or sideload, these two Players.

I have no information at present as to whether this welcome change can be, or is going to be, applied retrospectively to earlier models.

Splendid. But I’ve already decided that my next TV (to replace the 55” XE9005) will be a Philips OLED...

Yes - holding up the phone all the time so our Hue devices can simulate Ambilight on a non-Philips TV makes my arm tired 😢
