It’s very probably an entirely genuine question.

The real wind-up here is Motionflow - the software interpolation that varies from 400Hz clean up to 1000Hz, depending on the spec level of the TV, despite all the panels being at most 100Hz panels.

And I defy anyone to tell, with or without instruments, whether a given Sony TV is giving the claimed Motionflow rate or not. (There was a set a few years ago where the silver bezel version was claiming a different rate from the black bezel version. And Sony insisted this was the case. Yeah right. Unless which colour bezel you have affects the picture quality, maybe? )

But yes on the other count, the demo settings these TVs are on in the shop is cranked up to eleven. @pecartl30 can find this Mode if he pokes about in the menus, and can satisfy himself that the set can do this. But the cartoon-like primary colours will soon pall, I think.

Also on a side note - the AC is converted to DC in almost any electronic device, so internally these devices can play around with frequencies as they please. Otherwise there wouldn't be any 144Hz PC-screens or flicker-free studio lights.

Thank you for your help the tv is KD55xF7596.

i researched before I bought and the Sony site appears to say all “New” tv’s have freeview built in but previous models did not and you needed either a digital box or Ariel , however newer TVs should have it built in so no need for these.

Can we please all be a bit more precise about the term ‘Freesat’? This refers to a particular licensed EPG, with assigned channel numbers and full forward programme details for 7 days, and this isn’t present on these Sony sets.

They do indeed have a satellite tuner, but it doesn’t use the Freesat channel numbers, and only comes with Now & Next by way of an EPG.

As has been said above, the TV takes in mains at 50Hz, runs its panel at 100Hz (correction: 50Hz), and offers MotionFlow interpolation at 400Hz.

So unless he claimed that the panel runs at 400Hz, yes, he was being truthful.

@pecartl30 wrote:

I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD PURCHASED A 400 HERTZ TV.SONY BRAVIA KD-55XF759 6 HOWEVER THE DOCUMENTS TELL ME AT FULL RESOLUTION 4096 X 2160P ITS ONLY 50-60HERTZ . IT DOES HAVE SONY MOTIONFLOW. HAVE I BEEN DUPED OR IS THIS TV INDEED 400 HERTZ. THERE IS NOTHING EITHER IN DOCUMENTATION OR PACKAGING TO CONFIRM BUT THE ONLY REFERENCE IS TO THE POWER PLUG AT 50-60 HRTZ AND THEN WHAT I HAVE SHOWN ABOVE. CAN ANYONE HELP? THANKS

400Hz mains is sadly unavailable in the UK, or even in the US, so Sony are unavoidably restricted to the 50Hz AC coming out of the mains in the UK, and 60Hz elsewhere. But worse, the power comes out of the brick at 0Hz (DC).

However, here is the spec for this TV, which quotes:-

MOTION ENHANCER      Motionflow™ XR

(NATIVE HZ)                     400Hz (Native 50Hz)

So there’s your 400Hz, right there, and the native 50Hz it looks like the panel actually runs at.

i.e. It looks like he gave you both numbers, correctly.

But I don’t know where you got that 100Hz for the panel from......
