topic FIOS G1100 Router "Locks" Up - Seems due To Android OS on Sony TV in Android TV

My main FIOS router ‘locks up'. Primary symptom was the router was failing to issue IP addresses (192.x.x.x). Devices on the network started self-assigning (169.x.x.x). Verizon FIOS replaced it without question - although they were able to ping the router.

Same problem came back. IMMEDIATELY upon unplugging the Ethernet connection from the TV – every device went from a self-assigned IP to one assigned by the router – all was well.

I had a suspicion that the TV might be causing a problem. Background: TV was rebooted, connections checked, etc. The network itself checks out.

The connection to the network from the TV is hard-wired Ethernet.

I don’t know what the Sony may be doing to “lock up” the router. I’m guessing it could be flooding it with requests – maybe mDNS requests?

It happened again yesterday. As soon as I unplug the ethernet to the Sony - all is good again. Plug it back in - happens again - time period varies - but I'd guess maybe after 24 or so in standby mode - not having been turned on.

I have found posts that others had this issue previously - think the Sony firmware I have was supposed to fix it - it doesn't.

Thanks for any advice

FIOS G1100

Router Firmware: 02.00.01.08

Hardware Version: 1.04

TV: Sony XBR-65X900C

Firmware: PKG5.381.0167NAB from mid-March – the issue did not happen before this update.

Hi robnbill,

Welcome to our community.

This sounds like a very specific issue. I haven't come across anything like this before here in the UK community. This is the kind of issue that should be escalated to Sony support for further investigation. I checked your model and it appears to be an American model so it's best to contact Sony support in the US to raise this issue to them for further investigation.

Regards,

Batee5
