Sony Vaio VGC-LV1S wont play Blu Ray disks? Please help

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-LV1S which will not play Blu Ray disks?  However it will play CD's and DVD's?

- The Operating System is Windows 7 Home Premium

- All Windows updates are current (as of 22/04/12)

- All Vaio updates are current (as of 22/04/12) inc WinDVD BD - 8.8.0.282

- I am using the preinstalled Corel WinDVD BD player

- I have also downloaded 30 day trial versions of:

          i) Cyberlink Power DVD 12;

          ii) Corel WinDVD Pro 11;

  which also wont provide Blu Ray playback (but will play CD's and DVD's)

- I have also carried out each of the Sony recommended steps in the following link but unfortunately to no avail http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VGC-LV1S/tips-and-solutions

- Optical drive is MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ-225S (Driver version 6.1.7601.17514)

One of the main reasons I bought this PC was to be able to watch Blu Ray but unfortunately for the time being I've got the above problem.

Any help or advice  would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John

Hi. What media player are you using to play the BlueRay? try to install the desired codec for this. https://imagicon.info/cat/12-13/vmware_happy.gif

Hi Nikkilim,

I'm trying to play Blu Ray discs using:

1) Corel WinDVD BD(Update 8.8.0.282)

2) Cyberlink Power DVD 12 (30 day trail version)

3) Corel WinDVD Pro 11 (30 day trail version)

Unfortunately no success with any of the above.

Hi John and welcome.

I'm sure we have seen this problem with your model before - sadly I don't recall a happy outcome.

I see there is a UJ225 firmware update available under the Vista Updates for the LV1S Version Q113.  I don't know if this is designed for your drive but it may be worth looking at as nothing else seems to help.

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VGC-LV1S/updates

I suppose there are two likely causes: -

1.  The drive is faulty and needs replacement.

2.  A software/registry conflict may be causing the problem.  A few users have had success by restoring the Vaio back to factory settings to remove any conflict.

I'm sorry, but neither of these is an attractive prospect.

I have ever tried UFUSOFT Blu-ray Player Software to play bd movies on my brother's sony vaio vgc-lv1s laptop, which helps me successfully, and tried powedvd, which is also OK.
